Nestled in the vibrant city of Ajmer lies a shimmering expanse of blue, quietly reflecting centuries of history and culture—Ana Sagar Lake.
Built by a visionary king and beautified by emperors, this artificial lake is more than just a scenic spot—it’s Ajmer’s crown jewel, a perfect blend of natural beauty, royal legacy, and peaceful vibes.
Ana Sagar Lake dates back to the 12th century, when it was constructed by Maharaja Anaji Chauhan, the grandfather of the legendary king Prithviraj Chauhan. The lake was built between 1135 and 1150 AD as part of a water conservation project—a concept way ahead of its time.
To create the lake, embankments and dams were built, channeling water from nearby hills. What started as a functional reservoir soon transformed into a royal leisure destination and a city landmark.
Centuries later, the lake caught the attention of the Mughal emperors, who added their own touch of grandeur:
Daulat Bagh Garden – Laid out by Emperor Jahangir, this beautiful garden near the lake is a lush retreat filled with trees, flowers, and cool breeze.
Baradari (Marble Pavilions) – Built by Shah Jahan, these white marble pavilions add royal charm to the lakeside. Perfect for poetry, painting… or Instagram!
